Compression Spring

Custom Compression and Switch Springs

Compression rings and springsWhy is the compression spring such an efficient device?
It’s because of the compression spring’s simple construction. Compression rings are purely open-coil helical springs with a corkscrew design that opposes compression.  When weight is placed on a compression spring it reacts by pushing against the load in effort to return to its original length. Most compression springs are manufactured as a straight cylindrical spring, made with a variety of sizes and types of wire. Other compression springs are designed in the form of a cone, allowing longer travel due to the individual coils not being forced against each other. This brilliant and simplistic design makes the compression spring a reliable and cost effective solution for several industries including Aerospace, automotive, off-road equipment and even switches. You can find compression springs in large equipment such as lawn mowers and major household appliances to smaller compression springs in cell phones and delicate electronics.

Compression Springs Crafted to Your Specifications

At Mid-West Spring we craft compression springs in a variety of compression types, shapes, and specifications. We manufacture all standard compression spring sizes and configurations of compression springs. As a compression spring manufacturer we are also able to produce custom compression springs for your unique applications.

From our own personal and professional experience we know first hand that high quality compression springs makes all the difference in the performance, safety and longevity of your machinery, vehicles or electronics. We are committed to excellence, quality and durability. We take pride in being your premier compression springs manufacturer.

Mid-West Spring and Stamping offers compression springs with the following specifications:

  • Round wire diameters from .003" to .625"

  • Square and rectangular
Factors to consider when determining which compression coils are best for your applications include:
  • compression springs, switch springs, custom compression springsEnd treatment - Custom compression springs can have open, open and ground, closedor closed and ground ends

  • Free length -How long is the compression spring when fully extended?

  • Helix direction - The direction of coils is right or left-handed, depending on how the machine making them is set up. Handedness is important in very few applications.

  • Load at Solid Height - The force in pounds required to collapse the compression spring completely.

  • Solid height - What is the length of the compression spring when completely compressed?)

  • Spring Rate - How much force in pounds per inch of deflection does it take to compress the spring? See calculating procedure below.

  • Total number of coils in the compression spring

  • Outside diameter of the compression spring

  • Wire diameter - Diameters of .003" to 1 7/8" available in round, square or rectangular.

  • Wire material - Custom compression springs are available in a variety of steel and non-ferrous alloys
